William John Alais was son and pupil of the noted engraver, Alfred Clarence Alais (London f. 1878-1893). Alais flourished between 1877-1894. He worked in line, mezzotint and stipple engraving with subjects including animals, genre, illustration, portraits and topography. His plates were generally executed by B. Brooks and Sons.
