CANTAS SŒURS (Greece / act: Athens) |
The Cantas Sisters, who signed their work as 'Cantas Sœurs' in French, are the first Greek women to be engage with photography as a profession. Of course, considering the conservative morals of the day, such a profession was a rather daring initiative for a woman at the time. They inaugurated their studio in 1889 at 40 Stadiou Street, opposite the Ministry of Interiors.[Megakles Rogakos 08/2006]
