Georgios Derpapas was born on 11 November in Katerini and grew up in Thessaloniki. He moved to Hamburg, Germany, in 1957, where he studied Political and Economical Sciences. Derpapas' work includes intense realist and Byzantine elements within the school of Surrealism.
Georgios Derpapas presented the following personal exhibition: Galerie Tillybs, Hamburg (1964); Die Insel, Mannheim (1964); Goethe Institute, Athens (1969); New Gallery, Athens (1969); Titanium Art Gallery, Athens (1987); Stavros Mihalarias Art, Athens (2001). He also participated in the following group exhibitions: Panhellenic Exhibition, Zappeion Megaron, Athens (1967, 1969, 1971); Surrealism: The Greek Dimension, Titanium Art Gallery, Athens (1996); Beyond Reality, Municipal Gallery of Chania, Crete (2009); and Illustration of the poem "Preveza" by Kostas Karyotakis, Ianos Bookstore, Athens (2009).
Georgios Derpapas currently lives and works in Athens.
