CM: Laura Dodson's "Intimate Planet" explores and celebrates the circle, that most symbolic of geometrical forms. Round objects such as bulbs or balls are united with their more evocative counterparts - rings, wheels, cells... then transformed by explosive color and form into captivating new worlds. Created by the deceiving eye of the camera, these artworks blur the line between description and abstraction, between static still life and narrative animation. Dodson's Planets allude to natural cycles, rhythms and orbits. At times her spheres are broken down to the elements that govern our universe: fire, water, earth and air. Elsewhere they emerge as eggs or fruit, replete with their associations to sexuality, fecundity and regeneration.
