CM: Dimitris Gavalas engaged with the sculpture with a disposition for experimentation. He created series of sculptures with characteristic style. All works are originals and not replicating. They are cast in such a way that are not repeatable. They are all a result of manual work and can not be reproduced in molds. These sculptures are crafted with pieces treated with wax, which he joined with his hands forming a composition and then he cast them By this means, Gavalas demonstrated how well he knew to use the wax and fire.
The Mutation belongs to the first major works of Gavalas, which he created in a five-year period (1993-1998) and which he presented in a personal exhibition. 'Mutation' means something that happens in the world, which goes out of control and changes. Gavalas looked ahead of his time, catching a futuristic meaning and setting himself the task to sculpturally express it.
