ALKIS GHINIS (Greece, Athens b. 1933 / act: Athens) |
Alkis Ghinis was born in Athens in 1933. He studied painting and sculpture in London from 1961 to 1964 and again in 1966, at the Cas Art College, School of Art and Crafts. He has lived and worked in Bulgaria, Cologne, Copenhagen, Italy, London, Oslo, Paris, and has travelled all over Europe where he came in touch with various contemporary artistic movements. From 1977 until 1990 he taught art in the Municipality of Athens Fine Arts School."As a surrealist, Ghinis holds a special place in Greek modern art. That which distinguishes him is his imagination which, vaulting over all boundaries, finishes by becoming prophetic, as do his outstanding feelings for composition and color. […] Ghinis belongs to those artists who possess a 'third eye'. Through this, he acquires the ability to alternate dreams with reality and to compose pictures, which express his personal, particular reality.
