ASTERIS GKEKAS (Greece, Thesaloniki b. 1954 / act: Volos) |
was born on 18 November 1954 in Thessaloniki, Greece. He studied under the sculptor Nikos Michelidakis. In 1985 he founded the woodcut workshop "Dimitris Galanis". Using wood engraving, sculpture, painting and assemblage he created his own visual language.presented the following personal exhibitions: World Day of Music: Visual Taxims for Manolis Pappos, Art Space Astrodektis, Volos (2009); Hommage à Yiannis Ritsos, Gallerie Theorema, Brussels (2009);Is Poetry A Lamp, Multispace Metaixmio, Athens (2010); Do Not Expect Us To Bend, Customs Warehouses, Volos (2010); and Shoes, The Office, Nicosia (2010).
currently lives and works in Volos of Magnesia, Greece.
