LYDIA GRAVANIS (Greece, Athens b. 1939-1998 / act: Athens) |
Lydia Gravanis was born in 1939 in Athens. She studied acting and worked for ten years as an actress. She entered the Athens School of Fine Arts in 1981, studying Painting under the guidance of Yannis Moralis and Panayiotis Tetsis, as well as Engraving under Thanassis Exarhopoulos. She finished her studies in 1986.Lydia Gravanis has had many personal exhibitions, such as Paintings at Skoufa Art Gallery of Athens in 1987; Engravings at Aegina Gallery of Aegina Island in 1987; Portraits at Gallery F of Athens in 1988; Paintings at Maria Papadopoulou Art Gallery in 1992; Retrospective Exhibition at the Cultural Center of Psychiko Municipality in 1996. She has also taken part in many group exhibitions, including at the Goulandris Art Museum of Andros Island in 1986, at the Cultural Center of the Athens Municipality in 1986; The Soviet Artists Hall of Moscow in 1988; The National Gallery of Athens in 1988; The Tower of Marcellus of Aegina Island in 1988, 1989, 1991, 1993, 1994, 1995, and 1997; The Chamber of Fine Arts of Nicosia in 1988; Contemporary Greek Engravings at the Municipal Gallery of Piraeus in 1989; Contemporary Greek Art at Dimitris Pierides Museum of Contemporary Art of Glyfada in 1989; Women Artists at Zappion Hall of Athens in 1989; Session of The World Peace Council in 1990; A Valentine for Martha Graham at Sotheby's of New York in 1990; ELIA Auction at Dimitris Pierides Museum of Contemporary Art in 1990; Goethe Institut of Athens in 1991; Contemporary Greek Engraving at the National Bank Gallery of Athens in 1991; Municipal Gallery of Markopoulo in 1991; Contemporary Greek Engravings at the National Youth Foundation in 1991; Greek Engravings at Bratislava of the Czech Republic in 1991; Biennial of Barcelona in 1992; Engravings at Costis Palamas Building of Athens in 1994; Revera Art Gallery of Aegina in 1994; Engravings at Art Group of Thessaloniki in 1994; Palexpo of Geneva in 1997. In February 1989 Gravani designed the costumes for Strindberg's Dance of Death at Marietta Rialdi's Theater of the City. In May 1992 Gravani designed the masks for Dimitris Kollatos' Aristophanes. In October 1992 Gravani designed the a stage set at the Sunny Beach Hotel of Halkidiki. In December 1993 Gravani designed the stage set for Marietta Rialdi's Theater of the City. A retrospective posthumous exhibition for Lydia Gravani took place at the House of Cyrpus of Athens in 1999.
