CM: In Ynez Johnston's work, there exists a cohesive blend of contemporary, vernacular, and ancient art. The present Improbable Vehicle references the journeys with her late husband, novelist/poet John Berry, to Africa, Greece, Italy, India, Japan, and Mexico. It was these journeys that perpetuated her interest in exoticism and a mythical world, and this penchant for the foreign or otherworldly is embodied in the present work.
