CM: Angela Karalis is interested to represent in painting mental states of man. Her work entitled Thoryvos (Noise) concerns the busy man of the large city. As known, this man undergoes fragmentation by his work, his family and relationships in general. In an attempt to fashion his inner world, Karalis observed in the man of the city a general feel of silence as loneliness. Thoryvos represents this bipolarity. Externally man is surrounded by a great number of influences. Inside, however, he is alone. The composition is chaotic and renders thoryvos (noise) as a human condition that is both audial and visual. Nevertheless, despite the chaos, the palette is dominated by the gray colors of the stifling everyday urban life.
