George Kokines was born in 1930 in Chicago. He studied at the University of Chicago and at The School of The Art Institute of Chicago where he received his Bachelor's degree. He has taught at the Hyde Park Art Center, Chicago, and he lives in Chicago. Kokines was the recipient in 1962 of the Mr. & Mrs. Frank G. Logan Art Institute Medal and prize in the 65th Annual.
George Kokines took part in the following group exhibitions: The Art Institute of Chicago, Chicago (1958, 1959, 1960, 1962); Allan Frumkin Gallery, Chicago (1960, 1961); Holland-Goldowsky Gallery, Chicago (1960, 1961); John Gibson Gallery, Chicago (1961-1962); Richard Feigen Gallery, Chicago (1962); Adele Rosenberg Gallery, Chicago (1962). He is also reported to have converted his Rogers Park studio into a gallery for a work in progress exhibition on the first day of 2008.
