CM: The art of Athina Latinopoulou is neorealistic. She draws her subjects from simple, every day materials that she takes care to turn into precious, rare, and independent, with her special painting temperament. Her work is often quiet and calm, without the presence of the human component. Its mood is rather metaphysical, thoughtful, dreamy, melancholy and uncertain, with particular concerns and symbolic implications. Her pictures result from accumulated experience of many years and is a consequence of transcendental evolution. Eroticism is part of her Kouvaria & Plektaria (Balls of Thread and Knitting) series of paintings that she began in 2002. Here she enlarges to a dramatic degree the detail of a ball of thread so as to occupy the entire square painting surface.
