Alkistis Michaelidou was born on 1 January 1959 in Heraklio of Crete, Greece. She graduated from the High School of Neo Heraklion, Athens, in 1976 and continued Advanced Level Studies in Mathematics at North Trafford College (1977-1978) and Archaeology, Roman History and Painting at Saint John's College, Manchester, England (1978-1980). She studied at the Athens School of Fine Arts - ASFA (1981-1989), painting with Yannis Moralis and Dimitris Mytaras, and aesthetics with Pavlos Christodoulides. She furthered her studies with an attendance of all lectures on Theory of Art at the ASFA Master Degree Course (lectures by Petros Martinides, Giorgos Harvalias, Nikos Daskalothanasis) and private studies in Digital Arts (1996-1998) under Nikolaos M. Doukas. She received the following distinctions: Highest Quality Award at the IV Biennial of Drawing, Pilsen, Czech Republic (2004); The Best Collection Award at the VI International Biennial of Drawing, Pilsen, Czech Republic (2008). She has worked at the following institutions: Academic Drawing, Materials and Digital Image Processing - private tuition to candidates for entrance to the School of Fine Arts (1989-2009); Art Lessons at High Schools (1999-2002); Artists Exchange Program, International Association of Arts IAA, Sweden (2005); Pictor: Exploring the Familiar, State Museum of Contemporary Art, Thessaloniki (2008); ARTweek, Aaberna, Denmark (2009).
