ANTONIA PAPATZANAKI (Greece, Crete, Chania b. 1960 / act: Athens & New York) |
Antonia Papatzanaki was born on 23 January 1960 at Chania on the Island of Crete, Greece. She studied ceramics at Young Women Christian Association - YWCA, Athens (1978-1981). She continued her studies in sculpture at the Athens School of Fine Arts - ASFA (1981-1986) with George Nikolaides. She furthered her studies at the Universität für Angewandte Kunst Wien, Vienna, Austria (1988-1989) sculpture with Wander Bertoni. She received a Master of Fine Arts from the Pratt Institute, New York (1997-2000).Antonia Papatzanaki presented the following personal exhibitions: Hellenic Tourist Organization, Vienna (1989); Pleiades Gallery, Athens (1990); Bosch Gallery, Athens (1992); The Vafopoulio Cultural Center, Thessaloniki, Greece (1993); Milonoyanni Gallery, Chania, Crete (1996); Titanium Art Gallery, Athens (1998); Agora, An outdoor installation, Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, New York (2000); Agora Installation, Battery Park, New York (2000); Light Boxes, Yiayiannos Gallery, Athens (2002); Squared Light, Titanium Art Gallery, Athens (2005); Visions of Light, 112 Gallery, Chashsama, New York, USA (2007); Antonia Papatzanaki Recent Works, Tsatsis Projects / Artforum, Thessaloniki, Greece (2008); Light: The Shortest Path, Evdomi Opsi Art Gallery, Chania, Greece (2008); and Robust Matter and Image, Museum of Contemporary Art of Crete, Rethymno, Crete (2010).
Artworks by Antonia Papatzanaki are kept at the following institutions: The American College of Greece; Museum of Contemporary Art of Crete; and Vorres Museum, Athens. Her sculpture LightHouse is permanently installed at Kato Patisia Square Metro Station, Athens, Greece.
Antonia Papatzanaki currently lives and works in Athens and New York.
