Kostas Paniaras was born in 1934 at Sikyona (today Kiato) of Corinth, Greece. Initially he studied law, but eventually turned to art. Paniaras took his first lessons in painting with Theodoros Lekos (Errikos) and then studied at the Athens School of Fine Arts - ASFA with Yannis Moralis and Eleni Zongolopoulos. In 1956 he moved to Paris, where he studied at the École des Beaux-Arts, painting with André Lhôte, mosaics and fresco with Gino Severini. During the peak period of Abstract Expressionism, until 1975, he was based in Paris while traveling extensively to the U.S.A., Africa, Iran and the Far East. In his work abstract forms develop in monochromatic backgrounds.
