CM: This is the first version of The Port of Plomari that Hara Papatheodorou created after her favourite town on the island of Lesbos in the summer of 2007. Plomari is famed for its traditional architecture, as manifest on the noble residences but also on its industrial buildings producing soap, oil and ouzo. In order to include as great a vista of the town as possible, Papatheodorou recomposed in a condensed manner photographic aspects of Plomari, as they appear in magazines, and unified them with overlying ink drawing. The resulting picture is one of a play between reality and imagination, a panorama of surreal quality. Refelections of light emerge at various parts of the background in between buildings, inventively composed of plates on raditing color, which express the sun's blinding quality and evoke the gears of machines of local factories. The collages of Papatheodorou were presented at a painting exhibition entiled Our Very Plomari at the Cultural Center of Plomari and then at the Theater of Mytiline throughout August 2007.
