Christos Sarakatsianos was born on 1 July 1937 at Megali Gotista of Ioannina in Epirus, Greece. He initially studied painting with Georgios Kazakos at the Zosimaia School of Ioannina (1951-1956) and took courses in painting in the workshop of Panos Sarafianos (1958-1962). Subsequently he enrolled at the Athens School of Fine Arts - ASFA (1962-1967) sculpture with Thanassis Apartis (1962) and painting with Yannis Moralis (1963-1967). With support from the State Scholarship Foundation - I.K.Y. he also studied stage scenery and decoration Vassilis Vassiliadis (1965-1967). He furthered his studies in Batik art at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris (1972-1973). Later he audited at the School of Philosophy, Capodistrian University of Athens (1984-1985). Sarakatsianos traveled extensively as follows: United Kingdom, France, Italy (1968-1973); Paris (1972-1973); Athens and New York (1988-2001); and Athens (since 2001). He was a founding member of 'Omada Halkografias' (Etching Team). Clearly surrealist, his work reaches the limits of post-modernity.
