Ioakim Sidiropoulos was born on 2 April 1973 in Thessaloniki, Greece. He studied photography and worked in that field as well as in stage design.
Sidiropoulos works with great freedom in his artistic quests, without the distractions associated with everyday life and its needs, relationships and attitudes. Tending to question everything around him, he distorts and deconstructs reality in order to understand and accept it. He exhausts the potential of photography, which in practice means experimenting with both the shooting and the processing of his images. The distortion of the materials, sometimes by cutting or carving them and sometimes by literally burning them, leads to a new image and creates the space of a dreamlike reality.
Ioakim Sidiropoulos took part in the group entitled Project Room: Anathena, curated by Marina Fokidis and Marina Gioti, at DESTE Foundation, Athens, in 2006.
Ioakim Sidiropoulos currently lives and works in Athens.
