MT: mixed media: ink on black and white poster (60x42)
TX: inscribed with ballpoint pen at lower right in Greek <Of Takis / amicably / Theodoros / sculptor / 1.III.08>, printed at left in English <THEODOROS · OCTOBER 1970>
CM: This artwork's title IS ART SOMETHING MORE THAN A SELF-COMPLACENT ACT ? is a rhetorical question, a figure of speech that implies its own answer, whose vain aim is to c a ncel the poster's image. Considering this question to be an 'anti-slogan' Theodoros ascribes to it a signifiacnace that calls for it to be inscribed with capital letters. The pink color which has been applied on the print is an original codification, which has turned lighter in tone to problematize its obvious reference to blood. The position on which it has been placed indicates the 'head' of Matraque-Phallus. According to the artist "this is the crucial point where whatever is to happen takes place".
