WILLIAM ABBOTT CHEEVER (USA 1907-1986)

William Abbott Cheever William Abbott Cheever was born in 1907, and was living in Amherst, New Hampshire, when he died in 1986. As a teenager, Cheever did covers for National Sportsman Magazine. He studied with Philip Hale, traveled to the Hebrides on a Museum School scholarship, and went on to teach at the Boston Museum School of Art and at Phillips Academy in Andover. His accomplishments are many and varied. He told a friend that he had once done a mural for a McDonald's restaurant. Cheever painted the New Deal mural (1941) in a post office in Smithfield, VA. He also did two other murals in New England.
