CM: This woodblock print by Ippitsusai Buncho is 'bijinga' (pictures of beautiful women), a theme which preoccupied this artist in the period 1769 to 1774 and for which he was acclaimed. Herewith Buncho represents Chayamusume Kasamori Osen (Osen of the Kasamori teahouse), which is particularly rare. Miss Osen is typical of Buncho's bijinga for her high nose, pointed eyes, flat forehead, thick eyebrows and pursed lips, which give her a cynical and rather sterile charm. The present woodblock print is mounted on a card, on which the name 'Buncho' is inscribed with pencil.
