JIJIE HONG (China, Shanghai b. 1959 / act: New York) |
Jijie Hong was born in Shanghai China in 1959. He graduated from Shanghai Fine Arts College in 1981. Between 1981-1987 he taught courses at the Art Department of Shanghai Joa Tong University. In 1987 Jijie moved to New York City. He continued his studies at the Arts Students League of New York and was awarded a merit scholarship in 2002. He also received the 3rd prize in The 2nd National Youth Art Exhibition from the China Art Museum of Beijing in 1980, and the Margery Soroka Memorial Award from The Salmagundi Club of New York in 2003.Jijie Hong presented the following personal exhibitions: Prints by Jijie, Room with a View Gallery, Shanghai (2003); and Jijie: Past &; Recent Paintings, Gallery of Mercedes-Benz Inc., New York (2004). Jijie has also taken part in the following group exhibitions: The 2nd National Youth Art Exhibition, China Art Museum, Beijing (1980); The First Shanghai Youth Arts Great Exhibition, Shanghai Art Museum, Shanghai (1986); 9th Exhibition of the Japanese Artists Group, Art Museum, Tokyo (1986); International Touring Exhibition, France - Brazil - Portugal (1986-1987); Five Artists from Shanghai, Shanghai Exhibition Center, Shanghai (1987); A State of Transition: Contemporary Painting from Shanghai, Hong Kong Arts Center, Hong Kong (1987), New Horizon in Chinese Art, Cork Gallery, Lincoln Center, New York (1988); A Message from New York, The Sky Gallery, Osaka (2002); The New York Society of Etchers, Golden Street Gallery (2002); Prints, The Lobby Gallery, New York (2003); Merit Scholarship Winners of The Art Students League of New York, Cork Gallery, Lincoln Center, New York (2003); International Mini-Print Exhibition, Gallery of the National Taiwan Normal University (2004); Asian Fusion, Asian Cultural Center, New York (2005); and Silent Dialogues: Multimedia Portraits Throughout Time, ACG Art Gallery, The American College of Greece, Athens (2008). Artworks by Jijie Hong are kept at the following institutions: The American College of Greece; Fine Arts College of Shanghai University; National Taiwan Normal University; New York Public Library; Shanghai Art Museum; and Shanghai Jiao Tong University.
Jijie Hong currently lives and works in New York.
