CHARLES HUSTWICK (England, West Yorkshire, Shipley b. 1950 / act: London) |
Charles Hustwick was born on 27 March 1950 at Shipley, West Yorkshire, England. He received a BA Hons in Fine Art and Museum Studies from the University of Leeds (1968-1972). Professor Sir Lawrence Gowing was Head of Department while he was at university, and was an important early influence. He made a study trip to Saint Petersburg and Moscow in 1971.Hustwick presented the following personal exhibitions: Recent Watercolours of Sicily, Greenwich Theatre Gallery, London (1986); Pixley Street Open Studios, London (1991-1992); Paintings and Reliefs, Tate Gallery Education department, London (1994); There Now Then Here: Paintings of Time and Place displayed amongst the Collection of Mr. B D Smith, London (2003); Full Moon, Survey Exhibition in 3 parts, London (2006). He also took part in the following group exhibitions: Artists for Democracy, London (1977-1979); Spirit of London, GLC competition, Royal Festival Hall, London (1984); London Group, Royal College of Art, London (1984); Open exhibition of Contemporary British Watercolours, Bankside Gallery, London (1985); Drawings, The Fallen Angel, London (1985); Journeys: Michael Donlevy & Charles Hustwick, Dryden Street, London (1989); Art for Youth UK, Mall Galleries, London (1989-1991); Art + Suitcase - Will travel, Camberwell, London, curator: Bill Barrell (1996); Free Beer, The Shooting Gallery, Hackney (1996); Group Open, Bermondsey Artists Group, Café Gallery Projects (1997-2003); Tate Gallery Project: Bankside Browser, Saint Christophers House, London (1999); Ark, Kunstbrucke / Artbridge Project, Dilston Grove, London (2000); Shapes of London, London Chamber of Commerce, London (2003); Summer Exhibition, Royal Academy, London (2006); Arts Unwrapped, 40 Open Studios, London (2006); Annual Exhibition, Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolour, Mall Galleries, London (2007); Atlantic Dialogue: Charles Hustwick & Jo Zalon Meer, Mount Desert Island, Maine, USA (2007); and Open Studio, Galleria Studios, London (2007). He also set the Stage Design for the following dance theatre productions: Oscar, Theatre of Motion, Swindon (1985); In the Ghetto, Ballet Rambert (1986); and Affinities, Laban Centre (1987).
Charles Hustwick currently lives and works in London.
